Dinner At Compass Rose

Had dinner at Compass Rose in the U street district last night. It's billed as street food from  around the world - and it was really good. My dinner was an appetizer of 3 dips and pita chips (crushed olive dip, humus and roasted sweet pepper dip) main course - a Brazlian dish of whole shrimp in some kind  delicious sauce and roasted pineapple.

P.S. The blog is doing that crazy thing - When Impost more than 3 pictures it won't let me put a caption on the 4th picture:  this is a view of the type of homes in the neighborhood where I had dinner - just beautiful!

1st Day In DC: All The News That's Fit To Print

It was 66 and rainy on the first day of my trip - and I loved it!

I arrived early in the afternoon and after checking in at the hotel headed for the Newseum - what a fabulous museum.  6 floors of the history of reporting news.  Included were exhibits with the coverage of the Watergate scandal, including the actual door from the Watergate that the security guard found taped open when the burglars broke in, one of the first copies of the Suma Theologica, they display the daily front page of all the major newspapers in the US and and around the world, and an exhibit of the Pulitzer Prize winning photographs from 1940 to 2014 ....and so much more.  I.was there for 4 hours and could go back for more.

Here are a few pictures:

This is a portion of the Berlin Wall - they have an exhibit about the building and teariring down of the wall.

The actual tower from Checkpoint Charlie - East German guards were given the order to shoot to kill anyone trying to scale the wall to get to West Berlin
